Belden is committed to the sustainable use of finite resources and the preservation of our natural environment for the wellbeing of future generations.
This commitment is enshrined in our Belden company principles, which state that our business is committed to use natural resources as sparingly as possible, and to aspire to environmentally friendly solutions when it comes to our production and the application of our products. In line with this, Belden sets out to make a significant contribution towards a globally sustainable future.
Consistently making products greener
As a producer, we are aware of the needs of our customers to find greener and more sustainable solutions. So even in the early stages of product development, we look at ecological aspects such as energy and resource consumption as well as products’ future disposal.
We carefully measure and reduce the use of finite resources and energy consumption, for a lower carbon footprint, whilst, at the same time, we increase the use of renewable resources and/or offer enhanced features. We only use materials that meet – or exceed – legal regulations and the specific needs of our customers. And we fight waste, wherever possible.

Venlo, the Netherlands.
Our Lean approach to production and distribution drives us to identify waste and find new and more efficient processes for the future. Whilst Belden fully controls its own production processes – we also take into account all green and sustainable initiatives throughout the value-chain – encouraging suppliers and business partners to look for green(er) solutions.
These include the use of recycled or high performance materials in our packaging processes, all intended to reduce waste.
Packaging waste is being sorted throughout the Venlo production facility to ensure that all paper, wood and plastic materials are separated for recycling and re-use wherever possible – or used for thermal recovery. At the same time, a program to reduce the use of paper was introduced, delivering significant savings in both use and disposal of paper, effective immediately.
In transport we are streamlining our shipment schedule, while all trucks used by our carriers meet Euro Standard 5 to limit CO2 emissions – with full emission reports to ensure that the required levels are maintained. When it comes to internal transportation, we now use the most energy-efficient forklift trucks and order pickers available today. Eliminating the use of hazardous substances remains a priority and we no longer use methyl bromide fumigated containers or pallets - these have been replaced by heat treated ones.
It is encouraging to see that initiatives such as these are rapidly delivering results and are making a contribution towards Belden’s commitment to continuously improving its environmental performance.
