In all process automation networks, networking devices must endure extreme environmental conditions. In waste water treatment plants, Ethernet networks support continuous operation against high levels of humidity, grit, sludge and corrosive gases such as methane, hydrogen sulfide and chlorine. Furthermore, waste water operations require an advanced degree of automation and expansive network overlay to manage complex control units over large geographical areas.

Typically, systems need to be able to run 24 hours a day and 365 days a year without failure, and networking equipment should be resistant to threats of possible network malware intrusion.

Based on our Hirschmann™ product portfolio, we are able to offer a range of solutions that are suited for the harsh conditions and extreme networking demands of the industrial waste water environment. Our solutions ensure that sub-networks, also known as subnets, are
seamlessly and securely connected to a central Human Machine Interface (HMI). They provide the constant network availability and fast-Ethernet necessary to support central operation networks and auxiliary networks; such as voice and video surveillance.

Using the new modular Hirschmann™ MSP switch, combined with a fiber optic redundancy
ring, we can support seamless and secure communication between the control room and all control units in the field. This solution delivers embedded security and process monitoring features that regulate network access and mitigate the unsecured packet transfer between control units, while the EAGLE30, ensures complete network security in all layers of the industrial network.
